Tangier
–
Tangier is the perfect starting point for your Moroccan adventure, offering stunning natural beauty, historical caves, and access to Chefchaouen, the northern gem known for its iconic blue tones. After crossing the Rif Mountains and passing Tetouan, stop at the base of the Rif Mountains near Chefchaouen to take in the breathtaking scenery.
Chefchaouen’s Medina reflects its history as part of Spanish Morocco, showcasing Spanish-inspired architecture and vibrant, eclectic artisan shops. Wander through the colorful market and relax at one of the many rooftop restaurants or cafés, some located in charming Riads. Spend your evening soaking in the cool breeze and enjoying the unique views.
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we set out toward Volubilis by way of Wazan and other Rif villages. Volubilis is a significant Roman ruin and offers a glimpse into Morocco’s rich history and ancient heritage. From there, continue to Meknes, a UNESCO-listed imperial city. Explore the historic Medina walls, including Bab El-Mansour, and visit the impressive Moulay Ismail Temple.
After lunch in Meknes, we’ll depart in the late afternoon for Fez, where you’ll spend the night.
Start your day by meandering through the narrow alleyways of one of Morocco’s oldest and most historically significant cities. Visit the Royal Palace gates and explore the Jewish Quarter, the first mella (enclosed Jewish community) established in the 16th century.
Key cultural highlights include the Al-Qaraouine University, one of the world’s oldest universities; the Atarin Museum; the famous tanneries; and the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum. After lunch, explore local cooperatives and take in the stunning panoramic views of Fez’s medina.
Fez is divided into three main districts: Fes el-Bali (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Fes el-Jdid (the new Jewish Quarter), and Ville Nouvelle (the modern neighborhood established during French colonization). Each offers unique insights into Moroccan history and culture.
In the afternoon, we’ll drive toward Rabat and Casablanca, two of Morocco’s most important cities, with their historical landmarks and contemporary charm.
On the final day of your journey, we’ll return from Casablanca to Assilah, a charming coastal town known for its whitewashed walls and artistic vibe. Explore its historic medina and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Afterward, we’ll continue back to Tangier, where your unforgettable journey through Morocco comes to an end.
